3D Modeling and Fabrication

Accessible models for research and outreach

When you hold an ancient coin in your hand, you experience a powerful and tangible connection to the past. Once you leave the museum, how can you continue that experience? Pushing our boundaries even further, how might we or interact with these objects in augmented or virtual environments? How might persons with limited or low vision interact with such small and detailed objects?

To address these challenges, we are exploring methods to create 3D models of our coins. Using a variety of techniques including CAD drawings, AI-enhanced photogrammetry, and hand-held 3D scanners, we investigate how these objects might be replicated in both physical and virtual worlds.
